About the role

The SpecialtyNurse Emergency Department Mental Health (SNED- MH) is a person focused, expert nurse who provides senior nursing support for ED staff working with patients requiring mental health wellbeing support.

The Speciality Nurse will work alongside ED staff to build their capability and competency in working together with whaiora and whanau, increasing their capability to demonstrate cultural humility and competence.

The role provides coaching, mentoring and demonstration of best practice approaches for staff to de-escalate and stabilise whaiora presenting in crisis and develop alternative understanding of the origins and current manifestations of distress.

This role presents a pathway for experienced Registered Nurses to advance into a senior clinical role. This role, by challenging and guiding and role modelling practice excellence develops the capability of staff to respond to emergency care requirements.

About You

To be considered for this position, you must have:

  • Registration with NZNO and current APC
  • Post Graduate Diploma
  • 5+ years experience in Mental Health Nursing
  • Previous leadership experience in adult inpatient or community mental health setting
  • Current PDRP in expert or higher level
