The Role

We are looking for an experienced Quality Assurance Manager to lead the quality assurance function for our pet food manufacturing operation. This is a management role focused on maintaining product quality, food safety, regulatory compliance, supplier assurance, audit readiness, traceability and continuous improvement.

The successful candidate will oversee quality systems and daily QA/QC activities, work closely with production, operations, procurement and product development teams, and ensure that raw materials, production processes, finished products and documentation meet company, customer, New Zealand regulatory and export-market requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the site quality assurance function and maintain effective quality management, food safety and compliance systems for pet food manufacturing.
  • Ensure products, raw materials, production processes and quality records meet applicable New Zealand regulatory requirements, NZMPI expectations, customer specifications and relevant export-market requirements.
  • Manage and maintain quality programmes including the Risk Management Programme, HACCP, GMP, GHP, or comparable food safety and quality systems.
  • Lead internal and external audit preparation, responses and corrective-action follow-up, including liaison with NZMPI, auditors, customers and relevant stakeholders where required.
  • Manage non-conformance, CAPA, deviation, root-cause analysis, product traceability, recall readiness and customer complaint investigation processes.
  • Oversee supplier assurance, including supplier quality review, raw-material supplier onboarding and supplier audit or verification processes.
  • Coordinate directly with overseas QA teams and China-based stakeholders.
  • Lead, coach and train QA/QC staff and work with production, operations, procurement and product development teams to manage quality risks and continuous improvement.
  • Monitor quality performance, prepare quality and compliance reports, escalate key risks to senior management and support product, process or equipment changes from a quality assurance perspective.

Minimum Requirements:

  • A relevant bachelor’s degree or higher qualification, together with at least five years of relevant QA/QC or food manufacturing quality-systems experience; or an equivalent combination of relevant qualification and substantial practical experience.
  • Experience managing or maintaining quality assurance systems in a manufacturing or food production environment, including quality control programmes, certification processes, compliance systems, corrective actions, document control, product release, traceability and non-conformance management.
  • Practical working knowledge of RMP, HACCP, GMP, GHP or comparable quality and food safety systems, including audit processes, CAPA, NCR, root-cause analysis, product specification and traceability processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead QA/QC staff, communicate quality expectations clearly and work with production, operations, procurement, product development, regulators, customers and suppliers.
  • Strong written documentation, analytical, reporting, communication, time-management and problem-solving skills.
  • Candidates must be able to lawfully work in New Zealand by the start of employment.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience in pet food, animal-food, meat, dairy or export food manufacturing.
  • Internal auditor training, internal auditor certification, or practical experience preparing for third-party, customer, certification, regulatory or official audits.
  • Experience with supplier qualification, supplier audits, raw-material and packaging approval, product release, customer complaints and CAPA processes.

How to Apply

Please submit your CV and a cover letter outlining your relevant quality assurance, food safety, manufacturing, audit and team-leadership experience via this job listing. Shortlisted candidates may be asked to provide evidence of qualifications, relevant work experience and work rights before appointment.
