Heavens Orchards Limited is on the lookout for practical, hands-on Canopy Maintenance Technicians.

Heaven Orchards Limited is on the lookout for practical, hands-on Canopy Maintenance Technicians (5) to take ownership of the role across our newly developed and existing, high-tech orchard blocks. Based in the Bay of Plenty, this full-time role is vital in keeping our Kiwifruit Orchards thriving through smart water and nutrient delivery and proactive maintenance of critical systems. The role is a minimum of 30 hours per week, but will generally be 45 hours per week.

What You'll Be Doing

• Performing seasonal pruning, thinning, shoot selection, and branch training to maintain optimal canopy structure.
• You may be required to use some carpentry tools for fixing posts.
• Training branches, trying leaders, and maintaining trellis and canopy support systems.
• Monitoring tree health and identifying canopy issues such as shading, pests, disease, or structural weaknesses.
• Carrying out hand-thinning, bud removal, leaf plucking, and fruit exposure tasks.
  
• Assisting with pest and disease monitoring and basic irrigation checks
• Installing or maintaining trellis wires, posts, netting, and other canopy infrastructure.
• Operating orchard tools and equipment safely, including ladders, tying tools and pruning equipment. 
• Assist with planting young tree training and general orchard block maintenance.
• Maintaining compliance with all health, safety and orchard operating procedures.
• Replacing damaged or deteriorated timber or steel posts to maintain the structural integrity of the orchard.
• The end assemblies of the trellis are critical structural points that must be strong and secure to handle the heavy crop loads and wind pressure.
• Installing additional canopy wires to provide better stability and support or repairing broken and sagging wires.

About us

We are a large horticulture grower/operator within the Bay of Plenty region, looking to expand our team to be able to continue to maintain and grow our horticultural operations.

We operate Monday – Sunday between the hours of 7:30am – 7:00pm, with some of the work being weather dependent.
