Wednesday to Sunday, between 11:00am – 9:00pm

Salary Range: NZD $25 – $28 per hour

As part of our business growth and menu expansion, we are introducing a broader range of authentic Chinese cuisine. We are currently seeking a skilled Chinese Cook who specialises in traditional Chinese dishes, including handmade noodles, dumplings, steamed buns (baozi), and classic stir-fry specialties.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and cook a wide range of traditional Chinese dishes, including Chinese-style noodles, dumplings, steamed buns (baozi), and stir-fry dishes
  • Examine food ingredients to ensure freshness, quality, and suitability for cooking
  • Operate and regulate the temperature of ovens, grills, and other kitchen equipment
  • Season dishes appropriately to achieve authentic Chinese flavour profiles
  • Portion, plate, and garnish dishes according to presentation standards
  • Store food in temperature-controlled facilities to ensure food safety compliance
  • Prepare meals in accordance with any special dietary requirements when required
  • Assist with menu planning and estimating food and ingredient requirements
  • Train or assist junior kitchen staff when required
  • Ensure compliance with food hygiene and health and safety regulations
  • Conduct stocktakes and assist in inventory control
  • Maintain cleanliness of kitchen areas and ensure proper waste disposal procedures
  • Monitor kitchen equipment and report maintenance issues
  • Perform other related duties as reasonably required by management

Job Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of full-time relevant work experience as a Chinese Cook
  • Sound knowledge of traditional Chinese ingredients and cooking techniques
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen environment
  • Good teamwork and communication skills
  • Mandarin language skills are an advantage but not essential
  • A relevant NZQF Level 4 culinary qualification is preferred but not mandatory
  • A recognised Chinese culinary or occupational qualification is preferred
