Job Description Communications Advisor, Te Tari Whakatau

Te Haeata/The OpportunityWe're looking for a permanent Communications Advisor for Te Tari Whakatau, a departmental agency of Te Tāhū o te Ture – the Ministry of Justice.
In this role you'll bring your excellent storytelling and digital communications experience to help create clear, compelling stories and products for Te Tari Whakatau, working closely with teams across Te Tari Whakatau and the Ministry of Justice.

The Communications & Ministerial Services team provide expert advice and support on internal and external communications, media and social media management, graphic design, and stakeholder engagement. Our team also manages official correspondence, including Ministerial responses, Official Information Act (OIA) requests, and Written Parliamentary Questions.
Additionally, we support The Office of Treaty Settlements and Takutai Moana—Te Tari Whakatau with communications and official correspondence, ensuring transparency and connection between the Ministry, the public, and key stakeholders.
Te Tari Whakatau is a departmental agency of Te Tāhū o te Ture. Te Tari Whakatau leads the Crown's work to restore and strengthen Māori–Crown relationships through the negotiation of historical Treaty settlements and the recognition of Māori customary interests in the takutai moana (marine and coastal area).
Focused on reconciliation and recognition, its work shapes Aotearoa's future. Treaty settlements lay a foundation for hapū and iwi, strengthening cultural connections and enabling long‑term opportunities with intergenerational impact. Takutai moana determinations clarify rights and interests in the marine and coastal area, balancing Māori customary interests with those of other groups.

Utu ā-tau/SalaryThe appointing salary for this role will be between $74,634 and $100,846 based on skills and experience.
