As a Insurance agency in Auckland, we are looking an experienced DBA to manage, maintain, secure, and optimize the agency’s databases that support agency management systems, policy administration, CRM, billing, and reporting. Ensure high availability, data integrity, regulatory compliance, and performant data access for agents, operations, and carriers

Job Title: Database Administrator (DBA)

 

Position Summary:

Manage, maintain, secure, and optimize the agency’s databases that support agency management systems, policy administration, CRM, billing, and reporting. Ensure high availability, data integrity, regulatory compliance, and performant data access for agents, operations, and carriers.

 

Key Responsibilities:

- Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain database systems.

- Monitor database performance; perform tuning, indexing, query optimization, and capacity planning.

- Manage database backups, disaster recovery, and data security procedures.

- Implement and maintain database security: access controls, encryption, auditing, and vulnerability remediation.

- Perform data analysis and generate reports for management teams.

- Support data integration and migration projects and coordinate with vendors and carriers.

- Troubleshoot database-related incidents and provide on-call support for critical outages.

- Maintain documentation: database architecture, runbooks, configuration, maintenance windows, and change logs.

- Work with developers, operations, and data admins to ensure data quality, consistency, and performance.

- Ensure compliance with insurance regulations and data privacy requirements.

- Automate routine maintenance tasks (patching, backups, health checks, alerts).

 

Required Qualifications:

- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Finance, or related field — or equivalent experience.

- 3+ years as a DBA or database engineer; experience in insurance or financial services a plus.

- Strong knowledge of relational databases (one or more of Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL).

-Strong understanding of insurance systems and data platforms.

- Proficiency with backup/restore, replication, high-availability solutions.

- Solid SQL skills, query tuning, index strategy, and performance diagnostics.

- Familiarity with scripting/automation (PowerShell, Bash, Python) and monitoring tools.

- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

- Knowledge of data security best practices, encryption, and compliance frameworks relevant to insurance.
