About the Role: In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for the hands-on structural and panel fitting that forms the foundation of every vehicle restoration. You will work on a variety of vehicles, utilising advanced equipment and techniques to ensure every repair meets rigorous safety and quality standards. This position is perfect for a technician who takes pride in their work and understands that a perfect fit is the first step to a flawless finish. Key Duties & Responsibilities: Vehicle Structure & Frame Analysis: • Conduct comprehensive inspections of vehicle collision damage to assess structural integrity and identify misalignments in frames, unibody structures, and suspension mounting points. • Utilise advanced frame straightening equipment and hydraulic systems to meticulously pull and correct structural damage back to the manufacturer’s original specifications. • Diagnose and perform precise repairs on a vehicle's underlying structure, ensuring its safety and performance are fully restored. Precision Panel Fitting & Alignment: • Expertly install, align, and fit a wide range of metal panels, frames, and subassemblies—including doors, fenders, quarter panels, and bumpers—to achieve perfect contours and structural integrity. • Meticulously adjust all replacement parts to ensure consistent, manufacturer-specified gaps and flushness across the entire vehicle body. • Modify or custom-fabricate replacement body panels through skilled cutting, grinding, bending, and welding of sheet metal to perfectly match the vehicle's original contours. Technical Interpretation & Mechanical Fitting: • Interpret complex technical specifications, detailed vehicle blueprints, and comprehensive collision repair guides to determine the correct materials, tools, and sequences for each unique repair task. • Perform the fitting and installation of mechanical components such as exhaust systems, fuel lines, and associated brackets, ensuring all parts are securely mounted and functionally sound. Quality Control & Surface Preparation: • Employ precision measuring instruments including callipers, micrometres, and specialised alignment tools to verify the accuracy of gaps, contours, and dimensions on all repaired or replaced body parts. • Prepare vehicle surfaces for refinishing by undertaking skilled sanding, application of body fillers, and priming to create a perfectly smooth substrate, ready for painting. Equipment Operation & Maintenance: • Configure and operate a range of specialised workshop machinery, including MIG/MAG welding equipment, frame straighteners, and pneumatic/hydraulic tools, tailoring their settings for specific repair applications. The Ideal Candidate Will Have: • A proven track record as a Vehicle Fitter, Panel Beater, or in a similar role within the automotive repair industry. • Formal qualifications in Automotive Body Repair, Metal Fabrication, or a related trade are highly regarded. • Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings and repair procedures. • Demonstrated, hands-on experience with welding, metal fabrication, and the use of precision measuring tools. • Strong mechanical aptitude and a meticulous approach to every task, with an unwavering commitment to quality. • The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a cohesive team in a fast-paced environment. • A strong commitment to adhering to all workplace health and safety guidelines.
