National Sales Manager (New Zealand)

Company: Samen NZ Ltd

Location: Morrinsville, Waikato (national remit; frequent travel)

Reports to: CEO

About Samen NZ

Samen NZ is a specialist dairy and beef genetics company focused on fast-forwarding herd genetic gain for New Zealand farmers through strategic dairy and beef genetic solutions, Three Way Cross programs, and dairy-beef solutions that lift profitability and sustainability. The business has delivered strong double‑digit growth and operates with a nationwide team of breeding consultants supported by a compact head office team in Morrinsville.

The opportunity

This is a hands-on, commercially focused sales leadership role. You will own national sales execution—driving disciplined pipeline management, territory performance, consultant capability, and value-based selling. You will work closely with the GM/CEO and the technical team (Product Manager/Geneticist) to translate genetics strategy into measurable on-farm outcomes and commercial growth.

Key responsibilities 1) National sales leadership & execution
  • Own delivery of national sales targets (revenue, margin, market share) across dairy genetics, dairy-beef solutions, sexed semen, and priority programs.
  • Lead, coach, and performance-manage a distributed team to drive consistent, high-quality execution across regions.
  • Build and enforce a structured sales operating rhythm: weekly huddles, pipeline reviews, activity standards, and account plans.
2) Sales process, CRM discipline & forecasting
  • Implement and enforce a structured end-to-end sales process (prospecting → farm visits → proposals → follow-up → retention).
  • Establish strong CRM discipline and reporting; improve forecast accuracy and pipeline coverage.
  • Use market/customer/performance data to focus effort on the highest-value regions, segments, and products—making clear trade-offs rather than spreading resources thin.
3) Consultant capability & value-based selling
  • Lift capability in selling value-based genetic solutions (not commodity/index-only selling).
  • Ensure consultants can confidently position and deliver Samen NZ programs (e.g., Genetic Gain Series, Fast Forward Pack, Three Way Cross, Dairy Beef Solutions, gNZI-aligned strategies).
  • Coach through joint calls/ride-alongs; run practical training on objection handling, proposal quality, and farmer decision drivers.
4) Key accounts, partnerships & market presence
  • Personally manage a portfolio of key accounts and strategic opportunities (large herds, multi-farm groups, high-influence operators).
  • Strengthen relationships with service partners and aligned rural channels where relevant.
  • Capture farmer proof points and on-farm results; feed these into sales enablement and marketing (case studies, testimonials, quantified outcomes).
5) Commercial discipline & cross-functional execution
  • Maintain pricing/discount discipline to protect gross margin while remaining competitive.
  • Partner with operations to ensure a strong customer experience (order quality, delivery performance, issue resolution) using simple operational KPIs and dashboards.
  • Provide structured field feedback to Product/Genetics to sharpen the portfolio and improve adoption.
What success looks like (KPIs)

You will be measured on outcomes such as:

  • Revenue growth & market share (overall and in strategic segments like crossbreeding, dairy beef, sexed semen).
  • Consultant productivity (revenue per consultant, new farm wins, retention, activity metrics).
  • Pipeline health & forecast accuracy (CRM compliance, conversion, coverage).
  • Commercial discipline (gross margin %, discounting control, clean execution).
  • Team performance & culture (clarity, accountability, development, low regrettable turnover).
What you’ll bring Essential
  • Proven leadership experience in field-based sales within agribusiness / rural services / animal genetics / animal health (or closely related).
  • Track record of delivering growth through sales execution, not just relationships.
  • Strong competence in: pipeline management, coaching, performance management, CRM discipline, forecasting, and territory planning.
  • Commercially sharp: comfortable with margins, pricing decisions, and trade-offs.
  • Farmer-credible communicator—able to translate technical value into practical, on-farm outcomes.
  • Willingness to travel nationally and spend meaningful time in-field with customers and the team.
Desirable
  • Knowledge of NZ dairy systems and genetics concepts (e.g., crossbreeding, dairy-beef, sexed semen; familiarity with industry metrics/structures).
  • Experience rolling out new programs/products and lifting adoption through training and proof points.
What we offer
  • A senior, high-impact role in a growth business with real autonomy and accountability.
  • Competitive remuneration including a performance-linked component tied to growth outcomes.
  • Close collaboration with technical leadership (Product/Genetics) and a strong nationwide sales platform.
How to apply

Apply via LinkedIn or email with your CV and a short note outlining:

  1. The distributed teams you’ve led,
  2. The growth outcomes you delivered, and
  3. How you drive sales discipline (process/CRM/forecasting).
