We are seeking an experienced and service-focused Science Store Manager to lead the operation and ongoing development of the Science Store within the Division of STEM.
This is a pivotal role supporting teaching and research across a broad range of scientific disciplines. You will ensure the safe, efficient and compliant operation of the store, delivering high-quality service to academic staff, technical teams and students.
You will manage stock control, procurement, pricing and receiving processes across multiple store rooms within the facility, maintaining accurate inventory records and strong financial oversight. The role also includes stewardship of specialised scientific equipment and hazardous substances, ensuring compliance with health and safety legislation and University policies.
Working closely with Technical Managers and technical teams, you will contribute to quality assurance processes, user training, and continuous improvement initiatives. This is an opportunity to shape and strengthen a critical operational service within a research-intensive environment.
Salary will be in the range of $73,235 to $87,024 per year for the L4 position description, and $87,624 to $100,214 per year for the L5 position description, based on skills, knowledge and experience brought to the position. This is a full-time role (37.5 hours a week), based on our Hillcrest Campus.

Ko wai koe? – Who are you?
You are an experienced stores or inventory professional with strong knowledge of hazardous substances management and health and safety legislation, ideally gained within a scientific, laboratory, technical or tertiary environment.
You will also demonstrate:
Relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent significant experience in stores management
Certified Handler status (or ability to obtain) for hazardous substances
Strong ICT capability with excellent analytical and data management skills
Sound understanding of occupational health and safety and compliance requirements
Excellent planning and organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities
Proven ability to build positive working relationships across diverse teams
A full New Zealand driver’s licence
You are highly organised, detail-focused and proactive, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively. You are committed to maintaining safe working environments and delivering a responsive, professional service. Cultural awareness and a commitment to the University’s partnership with Māori under Te Tiriti o Waitangi are essential.
