Todd, one of New Zealand’s oldest family businesses and a key player in New Zealand’s energy transition, is on a mission to continue what it’s been doing for over 140 years – enable prosperity for New Zealand by building industries of value. Our core business involves the production and sale of natural gas to a diverse range of customers, including large industrial, commercial, and residential sectors. We are at the forefront of the energy transition, committed to delivering reliable and sustainable energy solutions.

We are seeking a Senior Security Engineer to provide technical leadership and strategic oversight across our IT and Operational Technology (OT) environments.

This role can be based in New Plymouth, Wellington, or Auckland, with flexibility to balance location, collaboration, and lifestyle.

About the role

As a Senior Security Engineer, you will be a trusted technical authority responsible for protecting systems that matter. You’ll lead the design and continuous improvement of security controls, play a key role in cybersecurity risk and change management, and act as an escalation point for complex security incidents.

This role operates with a high degree of autonomy and works closely with technology, operations, and business leaders to balance security, resilience, and delivery outcomes across a critical infrastructure environment.

What you will be doing
  • Lead the design, implementation, and optimisation of security controls across IT and OT environments.
  • Act as a technical authority for cybersecurity risk management, compliance, and secure change.
  • Embed security requirements into technology and operational change processes, including participation in CABs.
  • Lead and support response to significant cybersecurity incidents and investigations.
  • Work closely with external SOC and security partners to enhance detection and response capabilities.
  • Develop and maintain security standards, patterns, and technical guidelines.
  • Mentor and coach Technology & Security team members, uplifting organisational capability.
  • Translate cybersecurity risk into clear, practical advice for senior stakeholders.
About you

This role requires a professional with a deep technical understanding of enterprise security domains—ranging from identity and networking to cloud and endpoint security—balanced with the composure needed to operate in high-risk or regulated sectors.

You won’t just be managing systems; you will be a key influencer, providing leadership and guidance to both technical teams and senior stakeholders to drive meaningful security outcomes.

Key skills required for this role
  • 6–10+ years’ experience in cybersecurity or security engineering roles, supported by a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Security, Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
  • Industry‑recognised certifications will be advantageous, such as:
  • CISSP, CISM, or equivalent senior security certifications.
  • SANS GIAC certifications (e.g. GSEC, GCED, GICSP, GCIA).
  • Vendor and technology accreditations are strongly welcomed, including:
  • Firewall and network security platforms.
  • EDR / XDR solutions.
  • Committed to fostering a collaborative and high-performing team environment while promoting inclusivity and positivity.

If you have a knack for navigating complexity and a natural ability to lead through collaboration rather than formal authority, your expertise will be vital in strengthening our resilient infrastructure.

What We Can Offer You
  • Competitive remuneration with a discretionary performance-based bonus.
  • Flexible working arrangements and work from home support.
  • Access to our employee discount scheme, offering savings on electricity, natural gas, broadband and mobile services.
  • Employee discount programme (Todd Perks), free eye checks, discounted gym, fuel savings and other services.
  • Generous leave provisions, including 3 days office closure leave and the ability to purchase more leave if needed.
  • Enhanced parental leave for new parents, including top-ups of government parental leave payments for primary carers & additional leave provision for partners.
  • Annual health checks, mole maps, flu vaccinations and mental health support with Clearhead.
  • In-house leadership and development programmes, coaching and mentoring available and support for external studies.
