  • Based principally at our dedicated psychiatric site (Hillmorton Hospital), but with rotations to our other metropolitan hospital sites.
  • Fixed-term, full-time position from the 28th July 2025 - 1st February 2025.

About the Role

Our Psychiatry services are some of the largest and busiest in New Zealand! Psychiatric training in Christchurch is run in conjunction with the Department of Psychological Medicine at the University of Otago - s Christchurch Clinical School.

You will:

  • Gain experience in general psychiatry and a variety of sub-specialties.
  • Join a supportive, cohesive group of registrars.
  • Excellent support from consultant supervisors.
  • Training program works in close collaboration with an internationally recognised research department (The Otago University Department of Psychological Medicine).

About you

  • Previous experience in psychiatry is an advantage but not necessary
  • You must be eligible for general or provisional general registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand. You can check your eligibility by visiting the Council - s website at www.mcnz.org.nz
  • Competency with te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth
  • Experience in projects / initiatives which give effect to Te Tiriti principals and frameworks, and the application of Mātauranga Māori and Kaupapa Māori approaches, particularly as they apply in healthcare settings.
