Te Oranganui is a health and social service provider based in Whanganui and offers a wide range of services to all people within the Whanganui and neighbouring regions. Free services available include Mental Health & Addictions, Disability Support, Whānau & Community and Healthy Families.

We are seeking an experienced and passionate Nurse Practitioner to join our dedicated primary health care team. This is an exciting opportunity to work autonomously and collaboratively to deliver high-quality, patient-centred care that improves health outcomes for individuals, whānau, and the wider community.

As a Nurse Practitioner, you will play a pivotal role in providing advanced clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing management of patients. You will work alongside General Practitioners, nurses, and allied health professionals to ensure integrated and equitable healthcare services.

About the Role

The Nurse Practitioner provides advanced, evidence-based and culturally safe healthcare, working independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams. The role supports seamless patient care, clinical leadership, quality improvement initiatives, and the achievement of health targets while promoting positive health outcomes and wellbeing.

Key ResponsibilitiesClinical Practice
  • Provide advanced assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and management of acute and chronic health conditions.
  • Deliver comprehensive, patient-centred care to individuals, whānau, and communities.
  • Prescribe medications and treatments within scope of practice and legislative requirements.
  • Order, interpret, and act on diagnostic tests and investigations.
  • Develop and implement management plans in partnership with patients and whānau.
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation.
Collaboration and Service Delivery
  • Work collaboratively with GPs, nurses, and multidisciplinary teams to provide coordinated care.
  • Support seamless patient pathways across primary and secondary healthcare services.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, patients, whānau, and community providers.
  • Participate in case reviews, multidisciplinary meetings, and shared care planning.
About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Current registration with the Nursing Council of New Zealand as a Nurse Practitioner.
  • Current Annual Practising Certificate.
  • Authorised prescribing rights within your Nurse Practitioner scope of practice.
  • Demonstrated advanced clinical assessment and diagnostic skills.
  • Experience working within primary healthcare, community, or integrated care settings.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi, health equity, and culturally safe practice.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
