One Solution Limited is looking for an experienced and reliable Telecommunications Technician to install, maintain, test and repair telecommunications and data equipment for our clients. You will work across client sites, network cabinets and exchanges, diagnosing faults and delivering high-quality connections that keep our customers reliably connected.

This is a hands-on field role suited to someone who is technically capable, safety-focused and confident dealing directly with customers.

Key responsibilities

You will do some or all of the following:

• Examine drawings, specifications and work areas to determine the positioning of, and connections for, equipment to be installed.
• Install, connect and commission telecommunications equipment and appliances, including telephones, switchboards, modems, routers and data transmission equipment.
• Install and terminate copper and fibre-optic cabling for telephone, broadband/UFB, pay TV, and computer/data transmission.
• Erect, test and maintain aerial and underground wires and cables, conduits, and radio, mobile and antenna equipment.
• Locate and diagnose faults using instruments such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, ammeters, OTDRs and transmission measuring equipment.
• Adjust, replace and repair faulty items and test completed installations using electronic test instruments to confirm performance.
• Attach and terminate wires and cables to appliances, patch panels and outlets, and label and document all work.
• Carry out structured cabling and network hardware installation, including patch panels, racks and cabinets.
• Complete jobsheets, test records and as-built documentation accurately, and update job-management systems.
• Liaise with customers, engineers and other technicians to coordinate installations and resolve service issues.
• Follow all relevant health and safety, industry and site-specific standards, and keep up to date with new telecommunications technologies and methods.

Skills and experience required

Applicants must have at least one of the following:

• A minimum of 2 years' relevant work experience  OR
• A relevant qualification

We are also looking for:

• Sound knowledge of copper and fibre-optic cabling, termination and testing preferred
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
• Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
• Good communication and customer-service skills.
• A current, clean New Zealand driver's licence (or the ability to obtain one).
• A commitment to workplace health and safety.
